At 9,000 ft above sea level (2,800 m.a.s.l.), Quito is one of the highest cities in the world. Although most of our guests have no trouble adapting to the altitude, some may experience shortness of breath, headaches and nausea on the first few days of their visit. To ease this, drink plenty of water, drink alcohol only in moderation and rest as required. Certain herbal teas are also effective. It is advisable to check with your physician before you arrive. Oxygen tanks are available for guests at the hotel.
The restaurant is able to handle all food requirements. Please advise the team of any special needs before arrival.
Room service is available 24 hours a day. You will find the menu in your room. Additional charge of $5.

Although there are no vaccination requirements for Quito, the U.S. State Department advises for travel to Ecuador: “The Centers for Disease Control advises travelers to “make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot.” In addition, Ecuadorian authorities might require you to show a certificate of yellow fever vaccination when entering or leaving the Amazon Basin area, or when continuing travel to other areas of South America. If possible, you should obtain a yellow fever vaccine prior to departure from the United States.”
The Hotel is conscious of the community that it is part of and actively seeks to cultivate the relationship with those around it. Since 2009, the Hotel, in conjunction with our neighbor, Casa del Alabado Museum, has financed the maintenance of the San Francisco Plaza’s public toilets. In the same year, the Hotel began its involvement in several neighborhood projects, such as the award-winning community initiative, Heritage Guardians, which focuses on neighborhood integration, promoting the value of heritage, and at the same time establishing ‘routes’ for visitors to meet locals and experience their daily traditions and activities. The hotel is fitted with sustainable features that include electronic room keys and solar panels that lower energy use for heating water . Movement sensors are also employed throughout the service areas of the building. The hotel separates its waste and participates in local recycling projects. The hotel has a purchasing policy for all foods used as inputs for the restaurant: everything except for proteins are purchased within 6 blocks of the hotel. Proteins are excluded from this policy for food safety reasons, as our suppliers maintain strict cold chains.
High up in the Andes, Quito’s climate is typically unpredictable. Weather can switch from bright sunshine to torrential rain in the blink of an eye, so it is important that you take this into consideration when packing.
